Trying New Restaurants

Last night we went to Bangkok Spoon (on Villa Street off Castro Street) and had a feast. We bought this Google Offers deal from restaurant.com that gave us two movie tickets and $100 worth of coupons for $35. So we bought four restaurant deals with our $100 credit. One of them was for Bangkok Spoon. You spend $45 you get $25 off. When we got there, we realized how cheap the food was. It was a Thai place and kind of small and shabby on the inside, so we didn’t know what to expect.

To meet our $45 we had to order two appetizers, two entrees, a side of rice, a glass of wine, and dessert. The portions of food, even for the appetizers, were huge. We ordered the chicken satay, which were pretty large pieces of chicken. The sauce was so delicious. We also got these Thai pancakes with a savory sauce. They tasted like a less sweet version of funnel cake--so delicious, and the portion was huge. It surprised us how good everything was for the price, so we were looking forward to the rest of our meal. Although we were pretty full after the appetizers.

For the entree Eric got green chicken curry, which he liked but I thought was way too spicy for me. I ordered the pumpkin chicken curry which was the special. I absolutely loved it! We couldn’t really finish our meal but we still had to spend three dollars or something, so we ordered dessert. That was the best part: bananas wrapped in pastry dough and deep fried then smothered in honey. I will go back there mainly for this dessert! I still can’t believe we got all that for $25. I have leftovers for lunch today. And I’m still surprised how good everything was. We never would have tried the place if not for the restaurant.com deal.
